“Ogbu Eworo Rec” Igede Traditional Music (MP3 Audio)
Igede People have their original style of music that they play and listen to before the coming of the Western style of music that have taken over Nigerian styles of music. The advent of Western style of music to Nigeria has diminished most of the existing styles of music. Igede people’s style particularly was swallowed by the Igbo cultural music styles when they came to the land with the propagation of the Gospel of Christ.
There are several original styles of music played by the Igede people.
Igede people have original music styles which they perform and also listen to, before the coming of the foreign music styles. Befelow Yukay observed in his recent article on the original music style owned by the al’Igede.

Ogirinye, Akatanka, Abakpa, Opese, Ihyi, Ibechi etc are some of the famous Igede styles of music. All these are played with percussion only. Percussion are; drums (uba), icheke/icheche, ogirigbo, ije, ogbum, ichanchwo, ekurwe, opike, uko etc. No piano, guitar, sax are used for performing the aforementioned styles of music in Igede land.
Akatanka and Abakpa are the most famous ones in today’s publication about Igede traditional music brought to you by igedeonline.com. Obodo Band is a traditional music crew from Ikwokwu Ito in Obi local government area of Benue State. This particular style seems the most prominent in the land while the rests are played occasionally.
