Former Benue State House of Assembly Deputy Majority Leader and undoubtedly one of the greatest politicians ever from this part of the world, Iroko Nick Odukelaho Eworo is celebrating his birthday today.
We can not afford not to talk about some of his enduring footprints while in office, today.
Certainly, Eworo remains one of the very few Igede men that have ever advanced close to where issues are decided on who gets what, when and how, after the death of the former Deputy Governor, Ogiri Ajene in Benue State. If not that he got his calculations wrong when the end of his tenure was few months shy in the parliament, by leaving His Excellency, Gov. Samuel Ortom to embrace the camp of Lida, by today with Ortom, he would have been the most politically powerful Igede man on the surface of the earth.

Rt. Hon. Eworo is not the kind of legislator you wouldn’t want to love. His presentations at plenaries are memories you would want to check everytime. Igede people couldn’t hold their sentiment for long. Few months ago when he came to OJU to attend Igede political summit,
the appearance of the political heavyweight and most dogged state lawmaker ever to arise out of Igede was greeted with a very loud ovation. That showed that they are missing him. What a leader!
The remarkable style of his leadership transcends the frontiers of Igede nation, not limiting himself to Obi State Constituency, which he represented then at the state Assembly. One of his ardent lovers, Ugulo Otor Jackson Ogbu may be right when he suggested at a time that the man, Rt. Hon. Eworo was conditioned by his childhood experience and philanthropic training for the role he played in the affairs of Igede political landscape.
He dominated the three State Constituencies with such a zeal and commitment, drawing hurricane influence and popularity across Igede nation.

He earned for himself the epithet “Igede nation” among Tiv and Idoma people, following his unrelenting resistance to the forces of marginalisation against Igede nation.
He was and still very practically committed to political liberalism and altruism, the man “Igede nation,” as fondly called, expended his huge resources in placing Igede agenda in the front burner of national politics and global views.
He inserted Igede language into the NTA Makurdi programming for the first time and commanded respect, honour and influence among the state powerbrokers, to such an extent that no-one could ignore Igede people in the political scheme of things during his heyday, contrary to what obtains now.
“WHY EWORO IS THE IGEDE STRONGEST POLITICIAN ALIVE”, EULOGY AS HE CELEBRATES
It is on record that Rt. Hon. Eworo championed the process for the passage into law of the creation of Igede Intermediate Area Traditional Council as well as the installation and coronation of the First Class Chief of Igede kingdom. The difference in the political fortunes of Igede people between when the Iroko represented and or stood for Igede nation in the State Aseembly and now that he is outside power is painfully clear. It goes without saying that his political influence is laced with capacity and quality representation that attracted envy, malevolence and spite from his contemporaries and party members culminating in the brutal conspiracy that foiled his genuine bid for quality representation of Igede nation in the 2019 Oju/Obi federal constituency election.
Igede needs politicians of his pedigree to steer it from 2023. We can’t continue like this. Join us in celebrating him.
Happy birthday, Iroko
