Igede Proverb of the Day Episode 013

Posted on July 23, 2021July 23, 2021 By Igede Ambassador No Comments on Igede Proverb of the Day Episode 013

Greetings from igedeonline.com. It’s a great pleasure to present to you today’s proverb of the Day. We hope to do this for a straight one Month before we may have them posted in numbers at a time. So, welcome to another edition of Igede Proverb of the Day Episode 013.

The Proverb in Igede language ?

Ete okpaang akaa me ohirikpee je ohi le.

The English translation of the proverb ?

When the head hits something, it shows the waist how to bend down.

Like I said in one of our episodes, these proverbs have other ways they are said among different tribes of the world. The English version of this particular proverb exists. We are not much concerned about all that, though.

Furthermore, understanding Igede Proverb starts with the understanding of the language itself. It will however be a bit difficult for learners of the language to understand the deeper Meanings of these proverbs. That’s why igedeoline has chosen to break down the meaning for a better understanding.

Similarly, the English version of this proverb says; “experience is the best teacher“. When one says, “when you hit your head, that will show your waist how to bend”, the surface meaning itself makes sense, let alone of the deeper meaning. This proverb is simply saying that, when one makes mistake, it should teach the person and such mistake shouldn’t repeat itself.
